  • Try to stay in a hotel with a gym.
  • Try to stay in a hotel with a pool and/or spa (if there’s no pool, then just ask for the nearest swimming pool).
  • Try to stay in a hotel with a bar (you can also go out and explore Manila’s nightlife).
  • Try to stay in a hotel with at least 1 restaurant within walking distance so you don’t have to eat out every meal if you don’t want to (but if you do want to eat out every meal, then that’s fine too).

On solo travel to Manila? Manila is a city of many faces, from the old to the new, from the quiet to the busy, from the peaceful to the exciting. It’s a place where you can visit some of its famous landmarks like Intramuros and Chinatown or spend time in parks and museums. Founded by Spaniards in 1571 as a walled city with four gates and two forts – Fort Santiago and Fort San Antonio de Abad – Manila was already established as a trading center even before it became an important colonial capital.

Because of its strategic location along trade routes between Asia and Europe, Manila flourished under Spanish rule (1571–1898), becoming one of Asia’s most important ports for trade between East and West during this era.

The best time to visit Manila is in mid-October through mid-January. This is when the weather is tropical, with temperatures hovering between 20°C (68°F) and 28°C (82°F). The rainy season lasts from July to September, but it’s not as intense as other Asian cities’ monsoons.

The summer months of April through May and mid-June through August are hot and humid; you’ll want to avoid these months if you don’t like sweating profusely. However, this is also when the majority of festivals take place in the city—and there are plenty to choose from!

And it has its fair share of problems. The population density here is around 100,000 people per square mile (or about 26′ x 26′), making Manila one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Manila has been named one of the top 10 most polluted cities in 2017 by World Health Organization and was ranked as number 1 out all cities worldwide based on air pollution levels with an average PM2.5 level at 72% above safe limits set by WHO!

However, despite these things – or maybe because of them – Manila has become one of our favourite destinations to explore on our travels through Southeast Asia! Here are some reasons why:
